How to add Hour of Code to YOUR classroom

Coding can be incorporated into any class! Check out the many resources from our coding-themed Twitter chat. (Public domain image via Pixabay.com)

Coding is a skill that opens doors for students of all backgrounds.

No matter where they live, what color their skin is, what their gender is or how much education they have, if someone knows how to code, he/she has opportunities.

Companies are begging for coders. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, software developer jobs are expected to grow 17% from 2014 till 2024.

How can we get it in our classrooms?

Hour of Code is a great start. From Dec. 4-10, 2017, students all over the world will drop what they’re doing and code — or integrate coding into what they’re already doing.

Even if you miss that window, there are TONS of coding resources … and no one ever said you can’t incorporate coding outside of the Hour of Code!

In our regular Thursday #DitchBook Twitter chat, we discussed the Hour of Code, the importance of coding and resources to use in the classroom. And there were plenty!

Scroll down to check out a summary of our discussion below.
