Thousands of educators around the world have grown by leaps and bounds professionally by getting connected on Twitter. But what about those that aren’t on Twitter yet? How do you get started? Here is a guide to help you.

Joining Twitter can be a career-altering event. For many of us the connections, support, and resources we gain from being part of a professional learning network on Twitter are what give us back our passion for teaching.

The leap into the Twittersphere can be daunting. I hear even the most active Twitter users say that they joined months or even years before posting a single tweet!

So how DO you get started if you haven’t yet started your own Twitter journey? And how can we get started connecting with others through Twitter chats once we have joined?

As always the #Ditchbook community comes through with some amazing resources and tips to guide you.

As frequent moderators of the #Ditchbook Twitter chat and members of the #Ditchbook community Karly Moura and Sean Fahey wanted to create a shareable, printable guide to help you and your colleagues get the most out of this social media networking platform.

This guide will help you get started if you’re brand new to Twitter. For those that are looking to jump into the world of Twitter chats, like our weekly #Ditchbook chat, it has a section on that too!

30 Top Twitter Tips from the #Ditchbook Community

Every week educators around the globe come together to connect and share through the #Ditchbook Twitter chat. Want to join us? We would LOVE to have you!

  • They happen every Thursday at 7 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Mountain / 9 p.m. Central / 10 p.m. Eastern.
  • They often run for 30 minutes. Many times, moderators will offer bonus questions for those that want to continue chatting.
